The study of science, math, astronomy, and technology uncover and define the axioms of who we are as well as shape the potentials of the future. The convergence of these disciplines gave birth to this project and my recent passions.
I’m invested in the questions concerning machines and their alignment in society. Alignment today goes beyond a single mathematical function. It cuts across many theoretical and practical explorations. Philosophically, it asks what are the sets of human values and moral reasoning, and ultimately, who gets to define them. It extends into psychology — how do we make decisions and what are our biases? Neuroscience, as the foundation of learning, challenges our definition of intelligence and our relative position to machines. Linguistics examines language as a modulator of a distributed and interactive system, one that both humans and machines now share. And when it comes to interpretability and causality, we know how to fine-tune machines to learn specific tasks, but the exact mechanisms of how they learn and generalize are still areas of active research.
Machines emerged as complex systems from what were seemingly separate disciplines working on abstract but foundationally the same problems over time, connecting different pieces of information, each a part of a whole.
The gap between what we can build and what we can explain continues to widen. This space has inevitably created anxiety and uncertainty, but also a renewed appreciation for the curiosity and creativity that has eroded in recent times.
We are so back Einstein!!
Welcome to my first post. I hope my voice is one that brings novelty into the existing discussions. There are so many voices on the internet that have inspired me (that I will eventually shed light on), and that’s what I hope to do for others. I transitioned into Data Science two years ago officially, but prior to that, I was already finding myself committed to projects that aligned with data and its associated innovations — long before I had the language for it.
As it stands, I’ve curated this space for me to share my ideas and to channel my creativity. Eventually I would like to adopt more technical conversations and engage those interested along with me.
I will have fun with the questions that I explore in this blog. Some will be more rooted in academia, some might be broader than others, and some might just be rabbit holes I happen to find myself in :)
Among them:
Some of these are mentioned more broadly than others.
If you want to follow along, I will post my thoughts on “Natural Selection Favors AIs over Humans” by Dan Hendrycks (2023), a paper that explores whether Darwinian evolutionary pressures could favor AI systems over humans and what that means for alignment.
I’m finishing my degree soon, so I’m very busy, but I hope to publish my next piece on this paper in the next two weeks. Until then, if you want to receive a notification when I publish, please sign up here to receive an email:
